(Sports) Myanmar hails its performance in World Traditional Wushu Championships

Four Myanmar young wushu players, aged between 13 and 16, bagged three gold and five silver medals for the country in the world traditional wushu contest and the MWF can hope for them making achievements in the coming big modern wushu competitions, Secretary of the MWF U Kun Jar Aung, who just came back here after taking part in the championships, told Xinhua.


 

Myanmar two male wushu players Wai Phyo Aung and Hein Zaw grabbed one gold and one silver medals each in the world traditional wushu championships. Wai Phyo Aung triumphed in Nanquan (Southern Style) event and became runner-up in Shuangdao ( Double Broad Sword) event, while Hein Zaw won in Houquan (Monkey Style) event and finished second in Hougun (Monkey Stick) event, he said.


 

Shwe Yee Lin, the country's female wushu players, pocketed gold medal in Zuijian (Drunked Sword) event and got a silver medal in Zuiquan (Drunked Style) event, and another female Eint Mi Mi secured two silver medals in Nanquan (Southern Style) and Nangun ( Southern Stick) events, he added.


 

A six-member Myanmar wushu team, comprising four young wushu players, competed in the Taolu event in the biennial 2008 World Traditional Wushu Championship in Shiyan, Hubei province, China from Oct. 28-Nov. 2, participated by over 2,000 wushu players from 69 countries and regions.


 

Myanmar competed in the second World Traditional Wushu Championships in Zheng Zhou, China from Oct. 14 to 20, 2006 with nine wushu athletes -- five men and four women, winning 11 golds, 4 silvers and 7 bronzes.


 

Meanwhile, five Myanmar wushu athletes competed only in the junior age-wise events of the 2nd Hong Kong International Wushu Championships 2007 from March 19 to 25, 2007, pocketing 11 gold medals.


 

The Myanmar wushu team, under the guidance of Chinese coach Su Tongyu, grabbed two gold medals out of 15 awarded in both Taolu and Sanshou in the wushu event in the quadrennium Fourth World Sports For All Games in Busan, Republic of Korea (ROK) from Sept. 26 to 30 this year, participated by over 100 wushu players from 23 countries and regions including wushu powerhouses China, China's Hong Kong and Vietnam, standing third after China and China's Hong Kong.


 

A four-member Myanmar wushu team, comprising two Sanshou ( Chinese kickboxing) players, took part in the Fourth World Sanshou Cup tournament in Harbin, China from Sept. 19 to 21 the same year, participated by Sanshou athletes who qualified in the Ninth World Wushu competition. Saw Kyaw Soe Moe competed in men's 52kg and Naw Mar Tun in women's 48kg, and both of them grabbed bronze medal each in the world sanshou tournament.


 

Myanmar hosted the 6th Asian Wushu Championship in November 2004, attracting more than 500 athletes, coaches and officials from 25 countries and regions. Myanmar stood third after China and Vietnam with 5 golds, 8 silvers and 9 bronzes in the competition.


 

Myanmar grabbed seven medals -- one gold, two silver and four bronze, in the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand in December 2007, of which one gold and two bronze medals got from the taolu event and two silver and two bronze medals from the sanshou event.
